Teenagers asking for plastic surgery

The president of the Dominican Society of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Luis Gonzalez is warning that too many young people are asking for and obtaining plastic surgery. He said that 25-30% of patients are young women, many even teenagers. He says the operations are funded by their parents or even other relatives or friends. He said many of these youngsters are undergoing operations that are not recommended for their age. He said that youths are asking for liposuction, nose profiling and breast implants. He warned that plastic surgery should not be used as a way to lose weight. Gonzalez said that a teenager should only have nose surgery. Young women over the age of 18 could undergo breast reduction, but basically for emotional or physical health reasons. He called for plastic surgeons to provide guidance to their patients, as reported in Listin Diario. He commented that one surgery that is recommended for children is ear pinning, prior to starting school, if a deformity is obvious.
