President Leonel Fernandez is traveling to the Colombian city of Cartagena today, to take part in a meeting of the Latin American section of the World Economic Forum. Fernandez will be accompanied by Foreign Relations Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso, and Economy, Planning and Development Minister Temistocles Montas.
The meeting agenda includes discussions of Haiti's reconstruction, global economic recovery and the reduction of inequality in the region.
Also expected to attend is President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia and President Ricardo Martinelli of Panama and 550 business representatives from the United States, Russia and India. President Fernandez has scheduled meetings with them.
The Presidency announced that upon his arrival in Colombia, Fernandez is due to meet with Dell computer company president Paul Dell, followed by a meeting with the governor of the state of Mexico, Enrique Pana Nieto. Fernandez's agenda also includes a meeting with his Colombian counterpart, Alvaro Uribe to discuss the ongoing mediation process between Venezuela and Colombia. In addition, Fernandez has a meeting with Fred Hochberg, the governor of US lending agency EximBank, prior to returning to the DR.
