President Leonel Fernandez has sent another loan package, this time for US$50 million, to the National Congress by way of the Senate. The loan is a credit that has been negotiated with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to fund the latest Ten-Year Plan for Education. This project is part of a line of conditional credit for financing investment projects for the sum of US$100 million that was signed between the Ministry of Hacienda and the IDB on 22 March.
The loan will be used to improve the performance and the effectiveness of primary and secondary schools that have more than 500 students.
The goals are to increase actual teaching hours, improve language and mathematics levels, and reduce crowding in classrooms.
