The hoax call earlier this week claiming there was a bomb in one of the restrooms of the Santiago Cibao International Airport came from New York City, according to the District Attorney for Santiago, Yenny Berenice Reynoso. She said that the Attorney General and the Police were able to trace the call and that the case was almost solved.
The call was received by Jet Blue Airlines at its call center in the US and was immediately reported to the authorities at the Cibao Airport, which ordered an evacuation of the facility.
According to airport board of directors president Felix Garcia, "it was a prank, there was no bomb", and he described it as "a simple case of stupidity".
He said that no flights were delayed and called on the Dominican authorities to deal harshly with the culprits since these incidents reflect poorly on the country.
