Central Bank Governor Hector Valdez Albizu says that according to the Monthly Economic Activity Index the Dominican economy experienced a growth rate of 6% in the first two months of the year, adding that this is good news.
Valdez was speaking during the fifth anniversary celebrations for an economic news journal. He said that tourism, up by 4%, and industry and commerce showed greater dynamism. He said that during the first three months of the year inflation has been 2.12%, which is right on track. He forecast that the inflation rate for 2010 should not exceed 6%. The CB Governor expressed optimism about the tourism industry, speaking of new hotels opening and the start of construction of others.
He also praised new commercial activities, such as the opening of Ikea in Santo Domingo.
