With support from the Central Electoral Board (JCE) Administrative Chamber, the nation's political parties have agreed to coordinate their political activity agendas over the next few days in the run-up to the May 16 congressional and municipal elections. The aim is to reduce conflicts and tragedies during these events. The initiative was announced yesterday after a meeting between the Administrative Chamber judges, the national campaign coordinators and the political delegates of the organizations that are taking part in the election.
Administrative Chamber president Roberto Rosario made it clear that this "does not mean that we think that the campaign will be violent", saying that the measure is "a deterrent" aimed at ensuring a peaceful campaign. He also reported that next Wednesday they would decide which areas of the country to send members of the Election Military Police as part of these preventive measures. He said that due to lack of personnel they could not provide security services to all political activities that will be held between now and the end of the campaign.
