Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Julio Cesar Castanos Guzman says that the sentence issued by a court, favoring former Police chief Bernardo Santana Paez's bid to become a candidate for deputy for the province of El Seibo is inadmissible. He said that the decision by the court, which came one day after the JCE's plenary board accepted Soraya Chahin as the candidate for the PRSC-PLD alliance in El Seibo. As a result, the court's decision is moot, said Castanos Guzman.
The jurist and JCE chief magistrate said that the situation was comparable to evicting someone from a house that has burned down. He added that Soraya Chahin is the official candidate unless she becomes incapacitated, dies or resigns the position.
At the same time, Castanos Guzman praised Santana Paez for his attempt to clear up his situation in the courts, although he described it as "too little, too late".
