The Caribbean appears to be going though a record-breaking dry spell that has obliged some countries to close schools and courts. It even caused a riot in one jail and in some cases forced some people to walk three kilometers to find water. The worst part is that there is no relief in sight, according to a report in today's El Caribe. According to Adrian Trotman from the Caribbean Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, "In some places in the region this is probably the worst drought ever registered. Guyana, Grenada, St. Lucia and Barbados reported the lowest rainfalls between October and March since records started".
In the DR, after a long dry spell, some rain fell in the National District and some provinces, caused, according to the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) by winds coming from the east. The rains fell mostly in the north, northeast and southeast.
