The government is borrowing US$80 million from the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) to finance a housing project under the National Housing Institute (INVI).
Signing the agreement for the government were Hacienda Minister Vicente Bengoa and INVI director Alma Fernandez, and CAF president Luis Enrique Garcia. President Leonel Fernandez was also present at the signing. The agreement provides 15 years of financing and the funds will be used to build 4,620 houses in vulnerable areas where families have been affected by recent tropical storms. Congress needs to approve the loan prior to the disbursement, as reported in Hoy.
