The Eduardo Leon Jimenes art contest announces that within the changed format of the bi-annual arts contest it has chosen 10 artists to exhibit their works of art this year. From 131 art projects submitted, the Centro Leon chose Johnny Bonnelly, Gerald Ellis, Monica Ferreras, Sayuri Guzman, Pascal Meccariello, Natalia Ortega, Hulda Guzman, Gustavo Pena, Raquel Paiewonsky and David Perez. The nominated artists range from emerging talents to well-established contemporary artists.
The exhibition opens at the Centro Leon in Santiago on 14 October. What is different this year is that the Centro Leon will be backing these artists as they carry out their works. This year the jurors took into consideration innovative techniques, use of renewable materials, and the adaptation of classical styles to Dominican realities. In an editorial published today, Ines Aizpun of Diario Libre predicts there will be surprises, saying that "we will not be bored."
