First semester travel numbers show there has been an increase in the number of travelers to the country. According to an analysis in the Hola Juan Dolio newsletter, 1,826,125 visitors arrived from January to June. 88% of travelers landed at the Punta Cana, Puerto Plata or Las Americas international airports. The US was the leading source market with 962,614 visitors, or 53.7% of the total arrivals. From Europe came 721,181 visitors, or 39.5%. The newsletter points out that tourists are coming for shorter stays, on average 9.3 nights, and are spending US$107.49 per night.
