The Collegiate Tribunal of the Penal Chamber of the Court of the First Instance for San Cristobal handed down a 30-year sentence for Pedro Alejandro Castillo (Quirinito), after finding him guilty of the premeditated murder of Spaniard Adolfo Justo Cervantes Arellano (Waikiki) in a drug-related case in 2008. The other person accused in the case, Giovanni Antonio Padilla, was sentenced to 5 years in jail by magistrates Luz del Carmen Matos, Emilky Terrero and Biulkys Milanes Balbuena, "since it was proven that he facilitated the means with which to commit the crime". The two men will serve their sentences in Najayo Prison.
Quirinito, who refused to comment on the sentence, is the nephew of former Dominican army captain Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo, who is on trial in New York City on major drug trafficking charges. He has been in preventive custody in Najayo since 13 February.
