Although the drought is not yet over, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) has issued flood warnings for 10 provinces due to the forecasted rains. Provinces subject to yellow alert are La Vega, Santiago, Monsignor Nouel (Bonao), San Juan de la Maguana, Monte Plata, Duarte (especially the Lower Yuna Basin), and Samana. Azua, Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui) and Maria Trinidad Sanchez (Nagua) are under a green alert.
According to the forecasts, rain showers will occasionally be accompanied by thunder and lightning as well as wind gusts, and they will be more frequent and intense in the north, northeast and central parts of the country.
The COE called on residents in these provinces living on steep slopes that are vulnerable to landslides as well as people who live in low-lying areas to take precautionary measures against flooding.
