Government buys radars

Armed Forces Minister Lieutenant General Pedro Rafael Pena Antonio says that the government is spending US$34.5 million to purchase radars. The first is due to arrive within a month. He said the radars would complement the work of the 8 brand new Super Tucano jets purchased by the government at a cost of more than US$80 million. The minister said that the operation of the Tucanos has resulted in an abrupt and impressive decline in illicit flights to the DR, especially in the east. He was speaking to journalists prior to a speech on National Development Strategy by Economy, Planning and Development Minister Temistocles Montas at the Ministry of the Armed Forces, as reported in Hoy.
