Montecristi drug control chief arrested

National Drug Control Department (DNCD) chief Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo has confirmed that Second Lieutenant Jose Polanco Jimenez, the drug control chief in the northwestern province of Monte Cristi, was arrested and taken to Santo Domingo for questioning after claims were received that the officer engaged in the practice of setting up supposed drug traffickers, planting drugs and arresting them. He said that the officer, who had been on the job for six months, is otherwise known as "very correct". Rosado Mateo denied reports that Polanco had been arrested for becoming an accomplice of drug traffickers.
