Central Electoral Board (JCE) Administrative Chamber members have told Multimedios del Caribe media group editors that the 16 May municipal and congressional election will cost RD$1.22 billion, not counting the money that is given to the political parties to fund activities.
They reported that organizational work is 82% complete, and that the printing of the ballots will be finished by next week. Additional funding of some RD$400 million to RD$500 million is needed in order to complete the process, says Administrative Chamber president Roberto Rosario. This amount, plus that already spent, plus the money given to the political parties, places the cost of the elections near the RD$2.8 billion mark.
