Legislative candidates for the ruling PLD party and their allies in the Progressive Bloc agreed last night on a "Pact for Progress", the legislative agenda they are committed to promoting if they are elected for the 2010-2016 period. The document was signed by the PLD candidates and their allies at a ceremony held at the entrance of the National Congress, attended by President Fernandez, who is president of the PLD, and the members of the ruling party's political committee.
In the Pact, whose text is published in most of today's papers, the subscribing organizations establish that they will push for legislation to promote the creation of new jobs in the private sector through a program of tax incentives for companies. These incentives will only be applied to the creation of new jobs and under no circumstances will workers' already accrued rights be affected. Moreover, they will support, through legislation, the Ten-Year Plan for Education, the continuation of the "Solidarity Card" and will expand and institutionalize the reforms in the Social Security so that health care is available to the entire Dominican population.
