At a time when the internal differences have intensified within the PRD, party president Miguel Vargas Maldonado is calling on the membership to be calm and restrained. He also assured his supporters that the party is working to support congressional and municipal candidates. He made it clear that he is working to establish party unity, since he says he is aware that arguments between comrades are not healthy at this time.
"What is important are our candidates and we have the responsibility, starting with myself, to support them and to be with them against a government that wants to impose the government's candidates by force", he stated.
He maintained that he is establishing contact with the nominees and that he is planning to visit all of the provinces. He is going to Santiago today, to Puerto Plata tomorrow Saturday, and to Monte Cristi and Dajabon on Sunday.
Vargas Maldonado said he believed that the party's internal differences were caused by "the heat of the election campaign".
