Despite an electoral disposition calling for the ipso facto suspension from their government roles, several working ministers are heads of campaign for the ruling PLD party. Opposition leader Miguel Vargas of the PRD complained that PLD campaigns in several provinces are being supported by government ministry resources.
PRD political delegate Virgilio Bello Rosa and communications secretary Wilfredo Alemany say that 22 ministers and director generals in the government departments are in charge of the campaign in at least 26 provinces of the country, as reported in Listin Diario.
Some government officials who are leading the PLD campaign and the area they are in charge of are: Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia - National District, Economy Minister Temistocles Montas - San Cristobal, Insurance Superintendent Euclides Gutierrez Feliz and Industry & Commerce Minister - Santiago, Education Minister Melanio Paredes - Monte Plata, Vice President Rafael Alburquerque - San Pedro de Macoris, Presidency Social Plan director Emigdio Sosa - San Jose de Ocoa, Barahona and Bahoruco, Environment Minister Jaime David Fernandez - Sanchez Ramirez and Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez in Duarte, Samana and Hermanas Mirabal, Public Works Minister Victor Diaz Rua - Puerto Plata and Monte Cristi, Interior Minister Franklin Almeyda - Santiago Rodriguez and Dajabon.

The campaign chief for the PLD, Francisco Javier Garcia justifies the activism of the ruling party government officers. He said that the Electoral Law does not prohibit the members of the political committee of the party to accompany the candidates. As reported in El Nuevo Diario, he said that the PLD government officers are not in the campaign acting as government officers. Rather they are there in their role as party directors. He said the electoral law is clear when it states that all candidates up for election need to take a leave of absence, but not so the party directors and members of the political committee.
