According to a report in El Caribe, three Dominican women were killed when a wave capsized the small boat in which they were traveling with a group of tourists, including four Russians and one Italian, after visiting Saona Island, in the National Park of the East. The women were named as Antonia Perez de Aza, Lucia Esther Vicioso and Luisa Milagros Ortiz. The newspaper says that the women, who worked as food vendors and masseuses, were returning to Bayahibe after a day's work in Saona.
Otherwise, no deaths or damages have been reported as a result of the quake that was felt mainly in the east of the country but also as far west as Santo Domingo at 4:17pm on Sunday.
"Reports indicate that the boat overturned as a consequence of the waves that surged after the earthquake," said Luis Ortiz, an official at the Emergency Operations Center told El Caribe. He said there were no reports of physical damage in the area.

The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be 59kms from Higuey, La Altagracia, 61kms from La Romana city and 160kms from Santo Domingo. Its depth was estimated at 2.6kms. This was a relatively shallow earthquake.
