The Association of Industries of Herrera (AIEH) has added its voice to those who are lobbying for simpler government requirements for small businesses. AEIH president Manuel Cabrera says that government red tape has complicated matters for small and medium-sized business, known here as "Pymes". He said for small family businesses to become formal is "a true odyssey", as reported in El Nuevo Diario. He mentioned the tax and social security requirements, which require small companies to have tax, labor and accounting staff on their payroll.
Cabrera says this serves as an incentive for small companies to stay informal in order to survive. Cabrera advocates a tax model for small companies, which are responsible for most job creation.
