Taiwan is making financing available for the purchase of Taiwanese equipment through their Eximbank China, as reported in Listin Diario. The loans cover up to 85% of the cost of the equipment. Taiwanese ambassador Isaac Tsai announced the opening of the Expo Feria Ferretera Internacional 2010 with exhibitions of Taiwanese goods and participation by 40 Taiwanese companies. The fair opens this Thursday, 22 April and will last through 25 April at the convention hall of the Sans Souci Port terminal from 10am to 8pm. The event is being organized by the Association of Hardware Stores in the DR and is the largest hardware store fair in the Caribbean. Taiwan's exhibit will join others by Mexico, US, Canada, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Brazil.
The ambassador announced that a Dominican business mission would travel to Taiwan in June as part of efforts to increase trade and investment between both countries.
Ambassador Tsai also said Taiwan is donating a freight container with medical equipment for Azua hospital, as well as fumigation equipment and dengue prevention materials through the Ministry of Public Health.
Tsai says that the Taiwanese government has already donated US$12.5 million towards the organization of the National Census in October 2010. The funding for the census could be expanded.
