President Leonel Fernandez led a three-hour meeting yesterday with government officials and high executives of Verizon to seek a solution to the "fiscal divergence" arising from the company's sale to Telmex. According to a report by El Caribe, in addition to Fernandez, attendees included Executive Branch Legal Consultant Cesar Pina Toribio, Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL) Director Jose Rafael Vargas and Tax Department Director Juan Hernandez, who met with leading local and international executives from Verizon and United States Ambassador Hans Hertell in the Presidential Palace. The negotiators for Verizon in the United States and the Dominican Republic, Dan Petrie and Jorge Ivan Ramirez, were present as well as the company's attorney Fabiola Medina and other company executives from the US.
