A total of 67% of the 4,135 public employees who are running as candidates in the next congressional and municipal elections have taken leave of absence from their jobs.
Central Electoral Board (JCE) Administrative Chamber president Roberto Rosario presented a report yesterday on the controls of the use of State resources at the current stage of the electoral process.
According to data from the 513 state institutions and municipal councils, the greatest number of employees taking leave of absence was registered by the Ministry of Education, with 1,213. The institution with the greatest number of employees who are running as candidates but have not taken their leave is the Ministry of Public Health, with 375. The report mentions that the JCE had found the greatest number of violations for promoting a candidate or a party in city councils, with 29 instances found in the 513 that were inspected.
