The Ministry of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Culture have set up a joint exhibition on "Defense and Shipwrecks, the Sea as Hope and Abyss" at the Ozama Fort on Las Damas Street in the Colonial City. The exhibition seeks to explain cultural and historical moments that impacted our coasts and display important archaeological findings from coastal waters. The exhibit will be open in April and May.
During the opening ceremony, Armed Forces Minister Pedro Rafael Pena Antonio said that shipwrecks do more than just telling the tales of successful disembarkations. "Each shipwreck is an invaluable encyclopedia of knowledge. It is impossible to tell the history of the Americas without touching upon the shipwrecks". Also at the opening were Culture Minister Jose Rafael Lantigua, Deputy Culture Minister Lourdes Camilo Cuello, Culture Deputy Minister Alexander Santana Delgado and director of Museums Ana Maria Conde Vitores.
