The business sector has acknowledged that the country's economy is growing, although some sectors still have a long way to go. Lisandro Macarrulla and Manuel Diez Cabral, the presidents of the National Business Council (Conep) and the Association of Industries of the DR (AIRD), along with the head of Presidente beer, Rafael Menicucci, acknowledged the economic progress made during the first quarter of the year.
Macarrulla said that the economy has improved and this is a reality but a lot more is still needed, even though the future looks good for the business sector. He said, nevertheless, that measures have to be taken to ensure competitiveness for growth to continue and for the results to move the economy in a good direction.
Diez Cabral said that most of the jobs are being created in the service area with some growth in industry and construction. He said, nevertheless, that once the election is over, the government needed to concentrate on stimulating production.
Menicucci said that economic activity has increased quite a bit. He said beer sales are up by between 10% and 12% compared to 2009, when sales declined 7-8%.
