PRD president Miguel Vargas Maldonado revealed yesterday that despite the fact that they are fighting an uphill battle with the ruling party, because of the use of state funds, a poll by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner puts the PLD in a tight race in the Senate with just a slight lead of 3% (49%-46%). He stated that in the case of the race for deputy, the poll found that the PLD is leading with 47% against the PRD's 45%. He said that the poll was conducted by the research and election consultant from Washington, DC throughout the Dominican Republic at the end of March and that it was not done province by province.
"Obviously, this cannot be translated literally as the proportion of senators and deputies, but it is an indication, an important reflection of the correlation of forces when it comes to voting preferences," he said. Vargas Maldonado said that at the municipal level "we will obtain a large number of victories, more than we have now".
