Sergio Humberto Mota Reynoso (Vantroi) was supposed to be in jail where he was sent in 2005, accused of murder and criminal assault. As of now, nobody, according to Listin Diario, knows how Vantroi managed to get out of jail, obtain an altered passport and leave the country. Vantroi and a rival gang leader, Eliezer Ramirez were said to be engaged in a dispute over drug sales points in the Santo Domingo barrio of Guachupita when Ramirez supposedly killed one of Vantroi's brothers.
Listin Diario reports that Vantroi had wangled his way onto a list of prisoners prepared by then Prosecutor General Victor Cespedes Martinez for pardons from President Hipolito Mejia. But when then President Mejia refused to sign the list, Vantroi and a group of prisoners "escaped" while being taken to mass at the church of Nuestra Senora de la Paz in Centro de los Heroes.
As reported in El Nuevo Diario, the Department of Prisons said that Vantroi left the Victoria jail "after serving his sentence," in 2008, by way of release order No. 747909. He had been in jail since 15 January 2005, accused of several murders.
