The Ministry of Public Health has announced that health brigades have embarked on a vaccination drive aimed at reaching more than 3 million people nationwide.
The operation is part of the Vaccination Week in the Americas sponsored by the Pan-American Health Organization. The operation that will last from 26 April to 1 May begins today with free vaccinations against polio, German measles and measles at public and private schools. The Ministry hopes to reach 1.5 million children between the ages of 6 and 8. From 21 to 29 May, an estimated 606,189 preschoolers (under 3) will be vaccinated. From 11 to 19 June, the Ministry will vaccinate population groups estimated at most risk against AH1N1.
The DR joins 43 other countries in the Western Hemisphere in the initiative by health workers and volunteers to vaccinate an estimated 42 million children and adults.
