No social programs during campaign

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) issued a resolution on Friday, 23 April that prohibits the government from promoting its social programs alongside campaign activities. This includes the mobile kitchens used to attract voters with their offer of free meals. The programs are being put on hold until 17 May, the day after the congressional and municipal election. Officials from the National Lottery, the Economic Kitchen Program, the Community Development Office and the Presidency Social Plan had been openly running social programs for the poor during the ruling PLD party's electoral campaigning events.
