Visiting US doctors have praised the medical care standards at the Cedimat center in Plaza de la Salud. As reported in El Dia, the doctors said that children's cardiology has made great leaps in the DR, and that the facility is now offering sophisticated operations.
Dr. Benjamin Peeler, a children's heart specialist from the University of Virginia's International Hospital for Children (IHC) Foundation visited Santo Domingo and took part in operations on eight Dominican children alongside Dominican doctors. Peeler and Dr. Scott Gullquist, also of Virginia, were working at Cedimat.
Dr. Peller said that the surgical and clinical teams at Cedimat are at the same level as staff at many centers in the US. He says operations performed here would cost hundreds of thousands of pesos in the US.
El Dia reports that since 2004, pediatric cardiologists from the University of Virginia have teamed up with Dominican doctors at Cedimat for complex cases.
