In a joint operation with the US Coastguard, the Dominican Navy has confiscated a yacht "Dovian" at Cabo Cabron in Samana province. The vessel was trying to enter the DR illegally with US$1,269,416 on board. The yacht had sailed from Puerto Rico and was intercepted in Dominican territorial waters by the Dominican Navy Dubhe LR-164 and naval vessel Bellatrix. On board were Ismael King Almeyda and Felipe Encarnacion Paredes. The men and the cash were handed over to Dionisio Javier Santos, administrator of Customs in Samana by officers of the Division of Intelligence and the special forces of the Navy, known as Naval Commands.
The two Dominicans are likely to be arraigned on charges of illegal currency trafficking.
The Dubhe is a Boston Whaler speedboat that was donated to the Dominican Navy by the US Southern Command on 7 April.
