2 nights ago a chica put me down on 3 Haitian guys that were going to come see me....... Here is how it went down.

I was hanging out with HoseMan and another longtime board member. Hose and I went to Classico and posted up in front of the bar. HoseMan left with an amiga and I began to talk with a Dominican guy that lived close to me in the US.........before he was deported. The guy is a general suit case pimp, translates for guys, introduces guys to chicas, but he is never pushy, and I never see him begging for drinks.

A little short chica I have never seen before walks up to me and starts talking. After a few minuets she gets real philosophical about life, people, and the world. I sort of put all this out of my mind, I figured she just hit some really good shit, and it is expanding her mind into the outer reaches of the universe.

She then tells me, "You should go with your friend now". I ask why and she says, "for nothing". Then tells me "What ever you are going to do tonight you should do it now". I ask why again, and she says "for nothing". A few seconds later she tells me again, "Leave with your friend", "It is best to go with him now". Then I asked, "Is there a problem?". There were plenty of people out, it was well lit, in front of a place with security and Politur around....... but now she has my RADAR on.

She tells me, "It is dangerous in the street", "it is dangerous right now". After she said this I did not respond, but in a flash after she said "dangerous" all of that philosophical garbage about people and life all made sense.

I looked up (she is very short) and directly across from me, looking me directly in my face, Haitian Chulo #1. I look to my far right, looking me directly in my face, Haitian Chulo #2. I look across the street in front of X Flow, and yep.......looking me directly in my face, Haitian Chulo #3. All of them had a predatory look in their eyes and they were probing me for any sign of weakness.

All three hang together during the day, ( I make it a point to know the chulos and their girls) and run their girls from the Haitian Embassy, and the bar in front of Latinos by night.

I go from Mackish mode to my predator mode, and make sure they see me size them up one by one. BUT I am not stupid, I casually look around and the Politur have gone down to the casino and I remember the PN SWAT guys have "arrested" a beautiful puta for walking on the sidewalk and taken her to the station. I still have a crowded street to my advantage, BUT my car is parked toward the casino.......a walk down a dark street.

An opportunity presents itself when motos and cars pass and clog the street, so I cross the street in front of X Flow, as I do this Haitian Chulo #3 crosses the street. I see him but his view of me is obscured. I stand at the entrance to the club and wait while talking to the security guys. After a while 5 or 6 Politur arrive and I casually leave for my car. A pleasant end to something that could have gone bad. I was not drinking that night and not a soft target, they just marked me for whatever reason.

In the past month I have seen 3 guys get fucked up, not counting what happened to Trini. It is no more dangerous here than any other place, but when you place very poor people around people with even a small amount of disposable income.......you know what happens.

And on a final note, no I am not paranoid.

Why would have eyed you specifically as a target. And what time of night was it?

I am so glad that the first thing you said was you are happy I am safe and did not get robbed!!!!!!!!!!

Whats not to get, three criminals want to rob a guy. Pretty simple. They rob each other, so whats not to get about robbing a foreigner.

Between 3 and 4 in the morning.

Its really bad and people are suffering ergo the increase in crime. Its the natural order of things.

If the government doesn't do something to help the people they will riot.

Truth to be told I have never been "en la calle" after 2 am. I drove by, however, one time at 3:30 am after dropping off a friend at Caribe Tours for her return trip to Haiti.

Even without getting out of the car, it wasn't a pretty picture at that time of night. Mostly scum and low-life; this observation is, of course, further corraborated by your account. Glad that you are ok!

That was very scary, or you're a damn fine writer (I was really feeling it)! Either way, I'm glad you're ok. What do you think made you the target vs the other gringos? Was it the car? They could've seen you pull up. You said you saw them earlier...could they have been casing you out then? Was the chica who warned you Haitian or Dominican? My mind is wandering...I'm usually solo. I'm big on common sense, but sometimes that's not enough!

Its different this time. Its a bad recession so families are not going away and large hotels are closing down.

Maybe the government can steal less?

Whats not to get, three criminals want to rob a guy. Pretty simple. They rob each other, so whats not to get about robbing a foreigner. You make it sound like you were the sole focus of their attention which would make it seem like more than just a random opportunity to rob somebody.
You were not in a vulnerable state which makes it all the more suspicious that there is more to their motive of specifically targeting you.
In any case, it's good that you had your wits working and got away okay.

I am not quite sure how this works, re: "most famous, very few [...] know about".
Suffice it to say that he is remembered by many as a revolutionary at the forefront of fighting US imperialism in Latin-America.

His picture is probably the most famous portrait in the world. You can find it on almost any artistic medium. I have never been to a city, state, province, or country and not seen a mural, hat, t-shirt, painting without his picture on it.

Most people only know El Che, but they do not know his first name, his history, the writings he authored or his politics.

He is in a better position to tell than I am, but it involved a gun, and a drunk guy at a bar. Look for his report or Perhaps he can drop some gems in this thread. The 3 I saw; the first involved a drunk guy who was robbed walking down the street, he refused to listen to me when I told him to stay put, some motocochistas beat the shit out of him and left him bleeding on the curb. The second was a fight at a bar, over bullshit, but ........ one guy got knocked the fuck out. The third was over a chica, I don't have a lot of details, but........one guy got knocked the fuck out. It is not worth it to me, I just keep it moving, I'm never drunk, you can have that puta, and insults.........OK whatever.

Glad you came out OK.

Lately there have been more & more reports from Sosua about the hookers robbing and stealing from the fellas, especially in Sosua. Please take precautions in order to prevent this from happening.
1. Keep your money and other valubles out of site from the chics and others at all times. Picking your pocket is much easier than bouncing on your Johnson http://www.sosuatravelwarning.org/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
2. Watch what you drink and NEVER LEAVE YOUR DRINK UNATTENDED!
3. Check the girls ID. Why do you think that even the girl friendly hotels hold their ID until they leave? This procedure allows them to know who comes and goes in the event of any problem. I know several unsuspecting young ladies who loaned their IDs to other girls who later robbed/stole from clients and exited the hotel leaving the ID behind. Shame on the monger and shame on security for not catching this trick.
4. When in the room with a girl, never leave your values with her, especially if you just met her, no matter how much she calls you Poppy!
5. Never tell a chic before you plan on going to an ATM.
6. If the chic is acting suspicious, dismiss her immediately. Get another.
7. Be very careful when using locals as tour guides and personal assistants. Never go to remote locations (ie, El Campo) with them PERIOD!
8. Report all incidents to the local Police or Politur.

VIP Night Club Tour (http://www.sosuatravelwarning.org/2010/04/14/vip-night-club-tour/)

Posted on April 14, 2010 (http://www.sosuatravelwarning.org/2010/04/14/vip-night-club-tour/) by highroller (http://www.sosuatravelwarning.org/author/highroller/)
We just got back from our adult vacation with Dr.Nights (http://www.drnights.com/) had a great time and would like to thank the staff at Dr.nights for keeping us safe while on vacation there, However we did have an incident occur while using the Dr. Nights VIP night club tour, this is a tour where drnights takes you out on the town to visit two of the hottest clubs in town with police officers as your bodyguards, then when inside each club they sit you in the VIP area which was already reserved for us, the tour also included a bottle of champagne and 1 cigar per guest at each club. We loved the package it really made us feel like VIP’s until we hit the second club ( Classico ) this is where all our security really came in handy, after a few drinks we started to point out girls we wanted in the VIP with us, Dr, Nights staff had already warned us to be careful with the prostitutes since they love to pick pocket and steal anything left on the tables, so we were very mindful, then after 20 minutes, after letting these girls practically drink all our champagne, they start fighting with each other, trying to get us to kick out other girls since they felt like it was a competition, after Dr. nights staff noticed the incident, they began to take the girls out of VIP, consequently the prostitutes began to demand money for the time they had sat down with us, I felt we didn’t owe them anything since they had practically drank everything we had, I also asked Mark (our VIP host Dr.Nights (http://www.drnights.com/)) whether it was customary for clients to pay girls just for sitting down, he also confirmed that it was not, she was just trying to take advantage of me. When our bodyguard yanked her out she grabbed a bottle and tried to hit me, Thank god! for all the security we had they quickly grabbed her and threw her out of the club, however it seems these people stick together because all the other girls took her side and tried to come after us… Our security felt we had to leave now since we were in danger. As we made our way out we noticed the bouncers had let the girl who had almost hit me with the bottle earlier back in!, I couldn’t believe it, turns out she gives the bouncer a little more than tips if you know what I mean. Well this gave her a chance to round up her troops, and on the way out she came flying at us with a razor blade in hand, our police officer quickly drew his gun and almost shot this girl on the spot; As soon as she saw the gun she quickly froze up as if someone hit the pause button. As scared as I was, this was just too funny. You would think these crazy girls had enough, but then when as we are getting into our SUV it seems these girls had hopped on a motorcycle and started riding by throwing bottles, by this time our police officers had already called in back up and quickly ensued a chase, they quickly grabbed the prostitutes and locked them up. had it not been for our security and staff we would not have gotten away without being seriously or fatally injured.
My friends and I would like to thank Dr.Nights (http://www.drnights.com/) for keeping us safe and also the policemen guarding us. In Addition, I hope by writing this other tourists do not fall into this trap and avoid this place (classico nightclub) all together. On the other hand, if you are gonna go and you gotta go, then at least do it with security. below are pictures of the girls involved in the incident.

Security guard in Sosua arrested in Quebecer’s murder (http://www.sosuatravelwarning.org/2010/04/14/security-guard-in-sosua-arrested-in-quebecers-murder/)

A security guard at a resort in the town of Sosua in the Dominican Republic has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Quebec City man on Dec. 30, according to media reports. The guard allegedly tipped off two men about the presence of the victim and his friend at the villa. Police have also arrested a second man, reports said. Quebec City resident Jean Gagne, 41, was vacationing with a friend when two men entered their rooms in the middle of the night, according to the Journal de Montreal. The victim’s friend, who said he did not want to be named, told the Journal the attackers tied him up with bed sheets. They took his wallet, credit cards and his cellphone.

After hearing yet another one of my friends horrific story, I have decided to take action and warn all travelers about certain nightclubs and establishments who lure clients with prostitutes and use fictitious rules and laws to squeeze money out of frightened tourists. more often than not tourists just give up their money , however other tourists just wont stand for it, this is where things get dangerous, and so begin the controversy. Politur, Secuirty Guards and Prostitues united by one common goal and yes you guessed it, to take all you got. please read our site to discover tricks they use so you can safely avoid being a victim.

Thanks, I am a writer also. The chica was Dominican, the suitcase pimp I was talking to introduces guys to her, I had just never seen her before that night. I have an idea about the why, but it is not something I can put on the board, but it revolves around the original concept...... foreigner with disposable income

Oh no not random at all, and robbery is not the only thing going on, Haitian Criminals kidnap like Dominicans play baseball.

Corrado, glad you made out OK, but this part troubles me somewhat.

There are many gringos who frequent the night spots here that obviously have disposable income, just look at some of the wheels parked up.

Just as an observation it wouldn't be the 1st time I've heard that a chica (never been seen before) sets up a gringo for her chulos/boyfriends/amigos to roll.

When you feel the moment is right perhaps you could expand on your theory as to why.

I tell ya one damn thing, I am glad I dodged that bullet.

Back in Jan 2010 I met the one on the right, at Classico's and could not follow up at the time. Later that night, ran into her again at the casino club at about 2-2:30 AM with a hard looking greasy slick black hair back dude that looked like a pimp only he was European or American (No SHit). She broke contact with him immediately and & made a beeline straight for me. I let her know that I was still tied up and could not finish the deal. Glad that I did not.

But,..........SHE GOT ONE NICE FAT ASS!

Glad to know that you are OK though. I do not get too comfortable anyplace that I am at. I am always scanning the room. I have noticed many Hatians on the streets and bars with machetes underneath their shirt & have spoted others packing guns.

I am glad to hear you are ok and you avoided what could have been a serious problem. It sounds like it getting worse down there.

Staying at a All Inclusive will look more attractive to many people.

Some will probably start earlier and call it a day before Midnight and skip the disco. Perhaps keeping it safer by driving to smaller clubs where you can park in view of security.

On the other hand, if you are gonna go and you gotta go, then at least do it with security. below are pictures of the girls involved in the incident..

Go to Classicos with security! GO WITH SECURITY! Are you kidding me?

DRnights didn't keep this guy safe, DRnights caused the whole problem. By acting like highrollers with money to blow, security in tow, police escorts, the chicas knew these guys we're dopes and throwing money around like it was candy. And they wanted their share.

So they get competitive. Razor blades and throwing bottles, doesn't surprise me a bit. They wanted their turn to go back to the room with the "Highrollers" and rob them blind. Can't say I blame them.

Classicos isn't the problem.

I am confident the chica was not there to set me up, she really did not know me apart from asking the suitcase pimp if I was OK. I believe she just has a good heart, (a hooker with a heart of gold....huh) and did not care to see me in a bad situation. I would have eventually got the picture of what was happening but it would have been on my way to the car....... and the situation would have been a lot more grave.

Thats a good looking out on shorty part for putting you on to them dudes....

Glad everything turned out smooth....damn C you always in some shit!!! lol

Part of the reason I no longer deal with Street Chicas. Cats are hungry out there.

An AI is a good option, and yes turning in early is probably one of the best remedies. I find that middle class and upscale places in Santiago and La Capital just don't have as many problemas as the spots in Sosua......I think it is time for a change.

Despite this, Sosua is not really that bad. If you go to regular spots and deal with reputable people (as reputable as someone in Sosua can be), then there should be minimal problemas. Latinos and Classicos are not these types of spots. All the roughest cuerros and hustlers can be found in these 2 spots, but this is where the night life is so guys hang out there. I don't remember what time it closes, after 2AM, I have never stayed out in the casino so I could not tell you about that, but it is after 4 AM.

This is from Sosua News:

Sosúa concerned about crime
Representatives of at least 30 civil and social organizations met on Tuesday evening, the 20 April in the auditorium of the Gregorio Luperón school in El Batey to discuss the rising crime in the town of Sosúa. Among those present were the Deputy Minister of Tourism Lic Radhames Gúzman, president of the Civil Defense (Defensa Civil) Héctor Vásquez, president of the neighbourhood association Ana Rosa Mendez, Pastor Bernardo Vasquez and Vicar Castillo Olmedo.

The President of the meeting, Mr. Juan de Dios (Tito) Sierra made an overview of the incidents like armed robbery and shootings which took place. After this was pointed out, what action can be taken against the rising crime and drug smuggling. Puerto Plata has deployed more police to fight against drug related crime. This is very successful, for now, Puerto Plata has become much safer. But now some say that some of these drug dealers moved to Charamicos, Sosúa. The priest Bernardo Vásquez proposed to set up a another meeting with the National Police. The Sosua police should also make the same approach such as the Puerto Plata example. Anderson Hernández, owner of the web page Sosúa Online has the idea that all visitors to Charamicos should register with the police in advance. Those who did not register, are suspicious and the police should investigate their activities.

So.........

Guys sign up for the DRNights package, where they're given their choice of 'top level' escorts, and they pick one.

They go to Classicos, and start telling their 'security' guys which chicks they want from the dance floor, even though they have their 'top of the line' escorts with them.

They happen to pick a chick who drinks everything, then wants to fight when she's kicked out. Instead of going for the 'security' guy that's kicking her out, she goes after the guys with the money. Makes perfect sense.

All of this gets reported on a brand spanking new website, sosuatravelwarning.org

Are you kidding me?????????? Am I the only one that can smell the BS from across the country??

And three different posts about Mark and his DRNights in 24 hours. What a coincidence.

Survival of the fittest mentally and physically is just a natural mode I will always be in! Be safe ISOC and keep that banga on you if need be and aim for the guts, throat, eyes, and or ears! Its really bad and people are suffering ergo the increase in crime. Its the natural order of things.

If the government doesn't do something to help the people they will riot.
When has the government done anything for the people? According to the OP (nice to know he came out ok), those guys were Haitians, so the only thing that the government could do is to boot them out of the country.
Crimminals are not good people in a bad situation, they're just bad people.

Whether it was referring to the US or DR...let's show some revolutionary spirit!

“I know you are here to kill me. Shoot, coward, you are only going to kill a man.” -Ernesto "Che" Guevara
And a legend was born, of course nobody mentions what he said when he was caught "I'm el Che Guevara and I'm worth more alive than dead". Probably the former was said by the 14 years old kid he shot in La Cabaña. That kid did had balls!

Some simple logic tells me walking around acting like you have tons of money and need personal protection and want to be noticed will probably get you noticed by the wrong people.

In my first few trips I was lucky enough to be around people who gave good advise even though it didnt sink it right away.

In the past few years I definitely noticed some changes in Sosua especially more drugs and crime.

Since then its been time to leave the jewelry at home and not carry any large sums of money. I carry only what I will use for the day and rest is in a bank or safe. If I am to get robbed they get whatever I have in my pocket. I can always go back to the bank in the morning and get more money.

From what little I have heard and read lately Sosuas crime is definitely getting out of control.

Dont try to look so important and having so much money because you will be the prime target. Nobody wants to rob the poor guy who has nothing. Its not worth their trouble.

Don't let this one story throw you...let alone keep you from taking a trip - if only once. Stick to the tried and true.

I don't know when you're going but it seems like there will be a lot of ISOC guys in town for the 4th of July weekend. Stay at the New Garden - eat and drink at the tried and true - Big D's - Rocky's - Lou's - La Loca Vache - and you'll be fine...the key is networking and meeting a few guys from ISOC on that first trip...

...and developing a few contacts of your own just by saying "Hello" and offering a beer (if appropriate)...

...I've been out on the strip solo at 3:00 am - and desolate is an understatement...in some ways not smart on my part - just the circumstances at the time...

...after a session with this chica in my room - she insisted on going back to the club to give her sister some cash - and wants me to come with her...didn't want to but I did...had a great time drinking and dancing yet more...when we stepped out of CLUB X the streets were pitch black...

...only thing on the streets was a pack of stray dogs who all took to sniffing and lapping at the chica's pussy as she only had on daisy duke shorts...yeah they could smell that kitty...

...this past trip in March...spent one night just chillin' and drinkin' with Henry - older Haitian cat who's always out in front of Classicos and a few other Haitian cats he knows - next thing I know "C" is shutdown as is all the other bars - this one chica comes over and asks if I want to fuck her in the ass...seemed like more trouble than it would be worth...but we walk along together - her to her place - me to the Terra Linda...

...point is my first trip - would never have done either; - study the board - develop your own grove - don't over do it on the drinking and you'll be fine GDD...

...glad your safe Mr. C.

If you let this put you off you don't deserve to go to the DR.

But you cannot enjoy yourself if you are always looking over your shoulder. If you are the nervous type I would recommend going to Blackbeards or Field of Dreams for a few days until you are ready to go it alone.

I'm with Carolinajack on this one. Sosua can be dicey but the vibe there was never onerous enough that I would hesitate on pulling the pin for a good deal on the airfare.

The problem for me really is that I feel to at ease sometimes and have walked some chicas that asked me at 3 A.M. from my room at Rocky's down that dark street up to the supermeracado to catch a cab because she was nervous of being out alone with both the police and the ladrounes.

So there are times when the newbie is actually less likely to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time than the vet is due to him being more cautious and the vet coming from the mindset of having done it before and nothing happened and therefore venturing out a little later and a little further then maybe he should be.

Time for me to check myself

I hear about accidents, violence and crime increasing and these criminals don't even deserve being deported to Haiti. Shit strip them naked and leave them on the most remote border area of the country and let the decent local people deal with them.

I have seen local justice in some of the photos posted. They need punishment not a travel agent to relocate them. Let the Gov't kick there ass good and hard.
It is them or us and that goes for anywhere. Time to stop being soft on punishment.

You recommend a group of 4 or better. I would have to agree that would be enough of a presence to discourage the rotten stinking criminals. I still am amazed that the Police aren't stepping in and beating the shit out of these people for fucking with the tourist money.

I remember one time in Puerto Vallarta a beggar asking for a dollar and I told him to fuck off since he was drunk and filthy not a hungry kid. He followed my girlfriend and I a half block asking everyone he past and getting loud.

Finally when he asked my girlfriend at the stoplight again she yelled Get the Fuck Away from me Real Loud and as we walked away a black Dodge Power Wagon Pickup pulled up and I heard the tires squeal. It was near dark and the streets were quieting down. I turned when I heard a radio sound like the squelch of a CB radio.

2 guys in tropical shirts got out (Mexican) and grabbed the guy and pulled him in the alley. I said come on and we turned around and I walked up to the alley and saw one guy pounding this guy into the wall severely fucking him up.

The other guy said to me Its ok we are here to look out for you have a nice night.

Really, I thought it was Weyland in the early years before he captured that Hess guy in a farmers field in Scotland.

Good Times, I would love to party some night with G Dub now that he is retired. I bet when Laura is out gardening he could be a fun guy.

LOL, I'm not going to mess with Sir Weyland.

Yeah I would like to party with W if he never became President. Now that he is out of office all I want to do is slap the shit out of him.

Sorry for the thread jack.

For all the senior members, experienced people, first timers and new guys;

The purpose of the post was not to discourage anyone from going or to dissuade any decisions. It is only for information, so everyone can know the possibility is out there, the streets are watching, and waiting to catch someone slipping. It happens everywhere in the world I have been to.

Sosua is as safe or dangerous as any other place, you just have to be prepared in the DR just like you need to be at home.

If you are considering a trip, take it if the DR is the kind of place you want to see. It is a beautiful Island with beautiful women, you can have a wonderful time on this island. Stay safe, God Bless.

We know you are just telling it like it is and I for one appreciate it. Awareness is important and is necessary to be careful in many situations. Thanks.

Glad you came out OK.

You need to buy the chica a drink for looking out. You should also throw one of them Haitians a beating if you know who they are.

Yeah sure. Fuck with people that have zero to lose. People that will pull out machetes or worse for no damn reason. . . . . . not smart. . . . .not worth it. . .

I appreciate the reporting and the hints of awareness. Please throw all the information out for everyone to sift through. I am less than a month away from my first trip to Sosua. I have read through this board for close to 9 months and have learned so much from you guys!! MUCHOS GRACIAS!!

I am a low-key, observant guy who has been a few places. I am planning on haveing a GREAT time --travelling smart, keeping my guard and my Dick up!! Hell, I live in a nasty US city where this clip occurs way too often!!

Exactly...

Btw Corrado if you haven't figured out that this was because you threw the chica out of your room... she just called her pimp and he decided to have a word with you later...

Shows you who are the pimps too..

Lots to learn if you keep your eyes open.

No, not the case. The incident with the Haitian guys was before the incident with Storm. I know who her pimp is, I spoke with him......twice......he is Dominican, and he seems like a nice guy too :rofl::rofl:.

The situation with the three guys..... I think I have an idea about that.... but it is not anything I can post on the board. It has nothing to do with any girl. Perhaps If you are in the DR in June we can discuss it.

The (real) pimps are easy to spot, for the most part( there are exceptions). They are the guys at the bars sitting off to the side away from the main areas where the gringos sit (so they can watch you...and the girls), they usually have water, or a plastic bottle of something that they brought with them (not from the bar). When their girls leave the bar and go to the next one....so do they.... at a distance. You can also see them putting the girls in check between bars and on the side streets that run off Pedro C. between the casino and Seacrets.

Real pimps (not mooching/profiting boyfriends), Dominican and Haitian operate almost just like pimps do at home (U.S.) in terms of checking bitches and keeping them in pocket. The main difference I see in Haitian pimps is they readily mutilate the girls, biting them and scratching them.

Please share your thoughts and experiences on two subjects:
1. When would you call police in DR and when you wouldn't?
2. What will you do if a chica threatens to call a police at your place of stay because she wants to get paid more than you agreed upon verbally and what actually happens when she does?

1. More than likely, it wouldn't get to the point where you'd have to involve policia. I would call only after hotel staff couldn't control the situation and right before I'd have to resort to violence. If you're talking about while you're in the street and a chica gets nutty, grab an officer that's roaming around the premises (that is if one's around). I've been lucky in most of my drama, because a chica friend of mine intervenes and checks the other chica and eliminating further drama.

2. Chicas who threaten are usually bluffing. When it's happened to me, I'd say "go right ahead" or an even better "no, let me call them". They usally do a 180 in terms of attitude. That's why a lot of hotels now keep the chica's identification until you give the "all clear". Chicas will act right when their identification is being held hostage.

there is a lot more poverty now in the DR than I have seen in years past..........

and being here in Jamaica now....mi can say that that Jamaica is actually in better shape than years past......

Rocko you are right. But the salons are still full each day, and the new ladies are still coming by the bus loads heading toward the streets paved with gold. At the same time not many other are leaving even after they find the gold disappearing!

Calling the police is really a matter of last resort, mainly because they are not going to do anything anyway. In most instances they are only for window dressing to make tourists feel that there is security. There are some military units and SWAT units that are very well trained, but they revert to type when the chiefs are not around. If you have some sort of incident where you must have a police report, then call them otherwise it is; 6 in one hand & half a dozen in the other.

If they do, call the police for them, but make sure to call the Politur and not the PN. In almost all the instances I know of the Politur makes sure you have not abused the girl and then tells her to get the fuck on, the PN on the other hand, will try to get you to pay them full price for almost no service. There are PN that will mediate fairly but they are few and you have to know them. In any case, no matter what they tell you they cannot make you pay her if she did not do what she agreed to.

Kinda late to this discussion..but maybe my comments can help a first timer..

This really underscores the importance of choosing properly..
To each his own, but this is the primary reason I don't point and shoot....

I get a to know a chica..and she gets to know me. I'd like to think that they recognize my gangster..

I've been to Rio once and the DR 5 times and only had a minor disagreement with a chica one time.....

That was because I did not talk rates before we got back to the crib..and I did not pay attention to the fact that she wasn't "feeling me" as much as most of the other chicas have....she was fine as hell though.

As she sat on the bed...I remembered to firm up the rate. She held firm to 4k. With a nasty attitude told me she would NEVER fuck an american for even 2k. I promptly walked her ass all the way to the hispaniola gate and gave her 50 pesos for a moto.

I then called up my favorita that I had dodged all night at Classicos and went and picked her up from the bus stop..

Thanks for the heads up! I was having second thoughts about taking my first trip. But then again, I have survived Rio and Quito so it shouldn't be much worse. But the thought of crazy haitan guys standing around with machetes makes me nervous lol..

The only time I ever felt threatened was in Charamicos.

I was friends with a group of girls from Rio San Juan that lived in an apartment over there.

Went to their house about 5:00 a.m.

Next afternoon, just as I was leaving their building and walking out to the street, a Dominican chulo spotted me and started asking if I needed help. Then he said he had some drugs to show me and was motioning for me to follow him around the back of a building across the street, and I noticed there was some Dominicans hanging around the corner of that same building. I knew something bad would go down if I followed him.

I ain't no fool, so I just started walking up the street, the opposite direction. Got the first motoconcho I saw.

Shit, I was really deep in the barrio of Charamicos, took the motoconcho about 10-15 minutes to hit the main highway.

You are both right. Because the roads in the barrio are so bad it probably would take about 10 - 15 minutes to get from one end to the other. The distance is short but you have to go slow over the rocks and pot holes.

i've gone through charamicos on foot faster than in a car.

the three or four times i went through in a car were god awful slow because of the potholes and ditches.

but, i'm more inclined to believe that frito was just using some creative license with the retelling of the story for dramatic effect.
