The Ministry of Public Health says that no cases of German measles have been recorded in the country in the past three years and no cases of polio have been registered since 2001. Nelson Rodriguez Monegro, deputy minister of Collective Public Health said this week's Vaccination of the Americas initiative to immunize around 3 million people in the DR has a cost of RD$455 million. Some 6,000 public health workers and volunteers are taking part in the weeklong health drive sponsored by the Pan American Health Organization and the Ministry of Public Health.
