A report of the Hydrocarbons Committee for Central America says that fuel in the DR costs 14-20% more than in Central America, as reported in Diario Libre. This is mainly due to the higher taxes levied by the Dominican government. The average price for unleaded premium gasoline is at RD$165.90 compared to the average RD$138.58 in Central America. However, the same report says that propane in the DR costs 10% less, with the exception of Honduras where propane is cheaper. The government has frozen the price of fuel, coinciding with the electoral campaign for the 16 May congressional and municipal election.
