A Santo Domingo Province court has released Raul Humberto Mota Reynoso (Vantroi) on bail. Vantroi is known to be involved in the murder of at least 17 people. He was arrested together with Joel Bautista Vasquez (Pilito) when they returned after being deported from Mexico. Bautista Vasquez is also accused of having committed many murders.
Judge Jose Rosario Hernandez set bail for RD$2.5 million, for which a deposit of RD$250,000 was paid. The judge imposed a travel ban and twice-monthly court appearances on the suspected serial murderer.
This is the second time Vantroi has been released despite having been charged with multiple murders. On 15 December 2008, Judge Francisco Mejia Angomas released Vantroi from jail, as reported in Listin Diario.
Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez was one of many critics of the court decision. He said that the decision shows there is a complete lack of order in Dominican justice. "The way we are going, we are handing over the country to crime," said Lopez Rodriguez, as reported in El Dia.
