Priest assaulted

Father Manuel Bodenlle, the parish priest at San Pablo Apostol-La 40 in the Cristo Rey low-income neighborhood in Santo Domingo, recently experienced the high crime levels in the barrio first hand. When returning home from a meeting discussing the problems of crime in the barrio, he was assaulted by two armed youths. The thieves stole several appliances from the priest. At the gathering, community leaders, police and educational representatives had been discussing the escalating violence and crime in the barrio. During the meeting testimonies were given by several families that have lost one of their members at the hands of criminals during robberies or due to a "stray bullet", as reported in Diario Libre.
