Ismael King Almeyda and Felipe Encarnacion have been re-arrested by the National Drug Control Department (DNCD) in Samana. They are linked to the smuggling of more than US$1.2 million into the DR on board a boat from Puerto Rico. Samana prosecutor Juan Medina told the press he had not been involved in the procedures. The arrested were placed under a Customs prosecutor. News reports have mentioned several irregularities in the authorities' handling of the case. The two were released by Customs when it was pointed out the prosecutor had not been involved. El Dia reports that the General Prosecutor Office in Santo Domingo is now in charge of investigating the case.
Z101 radio's website features aerial photos of the captured boat, but the two individuals on board do not seem to resemble the men who were arrested. On the radio talk show website they comment on the rumors that neither the boat nor the individuals presented by the authorities are the ones who were involved in the operation.
