Economy, Planning and Development Minister Temistocles Montas admitted yesterday that the government has had an RD$18 billion budgetary deficit during the first quarter of this year. He added however that the 2.6% deficit of the GDP was taken into account in the National Budget and would be compensated by foreign borrowing. "We will end the year with a RD$50 billion deficit." He attributed the deficit to the effects of the global financial crisis on government revenues. Montas said that government revenues totaled RD$71,481 million, RD$5,589 million more than for the same period last year.
