Dominican-American bachata stars Aventura have swept the Latin Music Billboard Awards in San Juan, Puerto Rico where their latest CD, "The Last", won artist of the year and CD of the year awards. Vocalist Romeo Santos said that the crowd in San Juan was the warmest he had seen in many, many years. Band-mate Henry Santos said, "We want to dedicate this prize to all of those countries that have supported the bachata music... they are in our souls".
The ceremony turned into a sort of protest against the recent signing of a tough immigration law in the US state of Arizona when Ricky Martin appeared on stage and took advantage of the spotlight to greet all "the Latin American friends in Arizona". He said: "That was not in the script...The S.B 1070 is a law that makes no sense". The superstar added: "You are not alone. We are with you!"
