The Itabo Electric Generation Company (Itabo) has paid the government the sum of RD$486 million as their share of the company's profits from last year. The money was handed over in the presence of President Fernandez during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace. According to El Caribe, the AES Dominicana Group, a partner in the Itabo generating facility, represents a unique alliance between the private and public sectors. According to AES president Fernando de la Rosa, the generator reached 83.12% availability, a record for the last ten years. The Itabo generator provided 13% of the nation's electricity last year. The facility was also praised for its contributions to the community through the AES Dominicana Foundation.
