The National Police captured one of the 9 Most Wanted criminals in the Dominican Republic on Friday when they arrested Jose Arturo Lugo Gonzalez at a guesthouse in Andres, Boca Chica. The authorities accuse Lugo Gonzalez of stealing RD$5,000,000 in cash and tens of thousands of dollars from Scotia Bank in Santiago de los Caballeros. The Police found a million pesos in a hole under the suspect's bed.
Thanks to a series of photographs published in Listin Diario, the fugitive was identified and his whereabouts reported to the police.
At the time of his capture, Lugo Gonzalez said that he had carried out the robbery with another man, who he said had half of the money. He did not identify his alleged accomplice, claiming that he has not had any contact with him since the robbery.
When he was captured by investigators from the Monetary Crimes Unit of the National Police, Lugo Gonzalez was carrying three different identities.
He was one of the watchmen on duty at the time of the theft of RD$5,385,000 and US$22,500.
