McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a unit of Johnson & Johnson, manufacturers of Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl brands have been recalling the product in the DR and other markets. One news report says that the recalled products are "more likely to cause corporate embarrassment than pose a serious health risk." A report released by the FDA on Tuesday suggests that the products recalled by the McNeil Consumer Healthcare were knowingly contaminated with bacteria. However, the FDA said that the finished product did not contain bacteria so the risk for consumers is remote.
"While the potential for serious medical events is remote, FDA advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use," the agency said. The medicines were distributed in the United States, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Dubai, Fiji, Guam, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, and Kuwait.
The recalled meds are Children's Tylenol and Infants' Tylenol, Children's Motrin and Infant's Motrin and Children's Zyrtec and Children's Benadryl.
