Interpol agents in the Dominican Republic have arrested an Italian accused of drug trafficking. The Police confiscated assets estimated to be worth RD$100 million from Genise Antonio Rosario.
Police spokesman Nelson Rosario said that the Italian, who used a Dominican ID, was arrested in Santo Domingo when driving a Land Cruiser on the Malecon. He was found in possession of a Smith and Wesson caliber 38 with an expired use license.
Rosario said that agents had acted in conjunction with state prosecutors and arrest order No. 2301 of 2010 by a Dominican judge in response to an arrest order received from Interpol in Rome.
Nelson Rosario said that the confiscated assets included a EUR302,000 certificate of deposit, apartment 1202 in the Malecon Center, Torre I, valued at US$750,000, a storefront in the Malecon Center valued at US$300,000, a Subaru vehicle, several bank accounts, credit cards and another location with a power plant valued at US$25,000 located in Los Motores, in the low-income neighborhood of Los Guaricanos.
The Italian is under arrest at the Police Criminal Investigations Department (Dicrim) awaiting his imminent deportation.
