President Leonel Fernandez was present at an event honoring businessman Jose Luis Corripio Estrada with the Industrialist of the Year Award. The award was presented by Manuel Cabrera, president of the Association of Industries of Herrera. Also present was Andres Van der Horst, executive director of the National Competitiveness Council. The award is in its 12th year. The organization also awarded quality awards in industry to Cemex Dominicana and Ambev Brewery with a special mention for AES Andres and the Dominican Petroleum Refinery. The medium-sized business awards went to Industrias Metalicas Caribe, and a special mention to Laboratorios Union. The Presidente Beer brewery won the national award for a track record of excellence. Acero Estrella was recognized for its innovation, and Grupo M received a special mention for quality in free zone industries.
