The Dominican Republic will match Panama, Jamaica, the British Virgin Islands and the US Virgin Islands as part of Group A in the upcoming 2010 Centrobasket Championship for Men from 4-11 July 2010 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Santo Domingo. Group B is made up of Puerto Rico, Belize, Trinidad & Tobago, Mexico and Cuba.
The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, 10 July. The top two teams in each group will progress to the semifinal (1A v 2B, 1B v 2A), while the other six teams will end their participation.
The final will then take place on Sunday, 11 July: Loser semifinal 1 vs Loser semifinal 2; Winner semifinal 1 vs Winner semifinal 2.
The DR needs to rank in the top four of the event, in order to participate in the Pre-Olympic basketball tournament that will in turn decide who gets to go to the Olympics (4 slots), the Pan Am Games (3 slots) and the Central American and Caribbean Games (8 slots).
