A lawsuit against engineer Jose Ramon Brea and the companies Carimex Inc, Carimex Llc, Carimex E Ibt Internacional, Ibt Internacional Business And Trades S.A. is a first against the company that built the Ciudad de la Salud in the Province of Santo Domingo, a complex of five hospitals. Public Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez announced that one of the hospitals, the Dr. Ney Arias Lora Trauma Hospital would be opening soon. Architect Marcos Cesar Nunez Muniz and the firm Arq Tec, S.A., owners of the architectural plans for the hospital, says that Brea modified the designs without his authorization and obtained several international loans with the guarantee of the Dominican government. Nunez said that the plans for the hospital were never approved by the Ministry of Public Works because his signature would have been needed.
The lawyers filing the suit say that the company that built the hospital had only been authorized to import pharmaceuticals.
Nunez says he cannot explain how the state offered its guarantee in favor of companies that are not legally authorized to act as builders. He called on Congress to investigate.
