The Ministry of the Police and the Interior has described criticism from several sectors of society following the trickery played on reporters from Multimedios del Caribe (El Caribe) when they presented police officers as "rehabilitated criminals" as politically motivated.
Nonetheless, Franklin Almeyda acknowledged that the National Police needed to be cleaned up. Almeyda said that many leading PRD figures are discussing the issue of the National Police, which he said was not right since this should be an issue of the State. A report by television journalist Nuria Piera revealed that two police agents who were presented to reporters from CDN (Cadena de Noticias, part of Multimedios del Caribe), as reformed gang members were actually policemen.
