Leon Estevez dead

The first husband of Angelita Trujillo, daughter of dictator Rafael Trujillo, is suspected of having committed suicide at his apartment at Ave. Nunez de Caceres in Santo Domingo. His body was found on Saturday. The Police said that a telephone and several packed suitcases were found in his room. There are reports that he had left a letter for his relatives, but this was not confirmed or denied by the Police. The Police reported that retired Air Force colonel Luis Jose Leon Estevez had died from a bullet wound to the head. The police suspect that he used his legally held Colt caliber 45 to commit suicide. Newspaper stories carried reports on how he was a known torturer during the Trujillo regime, and was charged while in exile, but later acquitted by a local court.
