The government says it will wait until after the 16 May congressional and municipal election to send the contract for Venezuela's purchase of a 49% stake in the Dominican Petroleum Refinery to the Senate. The government said that most senators are up for re-election and would not have time to study the bill.
Hacienda Minister Vicente Bengoa originally announced that the contract would be sent to Congress on Tuesday.
By sending the contract to the Congress, the document will be made public. The contract establishes that PDVSA of Venezuela purchases 49% of the holdings for US$133.4 million.
